by Band Member on 01/01/12We are playing a show on Saturday January 7th, as a benefit for the Food Bank of the Rockies. We hope to see you there to support a good cause a have a good time rocking out to four wonderful bands and awesome pizza. That being said, I have long heard complaining from local bands about how the community doesn't support them or is indifferent to their plight. All bands are very demanding on their friends, families and fans, we ask a lot of you for a few hours of entertainment in return. Squidlick has made it a point to be as fan friendly as possible, and this is our chance to give back to the community.

by Band Member on 10/23/11It's been a week since our cd release, I've had a bit of time to reflect. Spent a week working in Grand Junction, so I had a lot of time to think. It was one of the best nights of my life, seriously. Everything cool that could happen did, and nothing went wrong. I am so grateful for all who came and supported us and bought a bunch of cds and merch.

by Band Member on 10/12/11Nervous about Saturday (cd release party) but am very excited. Only nervous because you always expect the worst, insert band joke/cliche here. But, beleive me we are more than practiced up for this one. Looking foward to seeing everyone there, the turnout should be stellar according to the feedback I am getting. Come on down I'll buy you a drink.

Sorry, long week. The art work was actually the hardest, betwen artists who were legitimately too busy and the flaky artists who never call you back (even if you are willing to pay). Then the whole lot of duplication companies who are on the lookout to squeeze more money or don't bother to contact you. Ugh... It was frustrating, let me say though there were some who are legit and did contact, but were beyond our price range. I ended up doing the art work myself and my friend Foster took the photos. It worked out pretty good, and I became alot better on Gimp (artwork program) www.gimp.org/ We ended up doing our duplications at Denver Disc, who I highly recommend. www.denverdisc.com

Back to the recording story... Motaland is an amazing place to record, I totally recommend them to any band who is recording their first cd. Bart the main engineer/owner is a super cool dude. He made us feel super comfortable, the clock wasn't a constant worry (which is a huge relief) and the place has a great vibe. The cd is 90% live, other that a few guitar overdubs, everything was live. We basically played as a band, which for us was key. Although Nillz had to sing alone, but he is the greatest at mulitracking ever. The mixing was easy, we just gave a few clues of what we wanted and let Bart do the rest, recording cost us less than $2000 for 4 sessions.

Played a suprise show last night at Herman's Hideaway (twice in one month) it was a great show Musuji is a fantastic band, very tight and high energy. Man I must admit, one of the best bands we've ever played with. The comedians we also fantastic, stand up comedy must be the hardest gig in showbiz. Check out Fried Nothing TV, I swear you will dig them.

Anyway, I'd like to share my take on the whole recording process for this album. Last winter we made plans to get record some demos, after having tried the DIY process and realizing our recording equipment wasn't quite up to snuff, we searched quite a bit for a studio around town that would work for us. Having contacted studios that were either too Lo-Fi, or too expensive, our friend Hope from the band The Blackouts http://www.myspace.com/thedenverblackouts (greatest band ever) recommended the studio where their band recorded their cd. http://www.motaland.com/

Thursday September 22nd we played a Led Zep/Sabbath tribute, what a total blast that was. Herman's Hideaway is always a great place to play, the staff there is very nice and professional. I personally had a rough night, breaking a string on my main guitar on the second song, I spent the rest of the night transposing my solos, but no worries. Zeppephilia is the best Zeppelin tribute band I have ever heard, they have the best Zep vibe I have ever experienced, check 'em out for sure. Black Rainbow had a great take on the Sabbath legacy, instead of the typical Ozzy rehash, they went the Dio route and were fantastic, with lots of Rainbow covers thrown in it brought back memories of my youth. Hats off to them, I liked it a lot and I bet you will too, check 'em out. Year of Fear was flat out great, loved the Pennywise cover, awesome songs, nice guys and a great sound. They are a band from Pueblo, check out their myspace/faccebook for more info.
